Understand & Respond to Vicarious Trauma

Vicarious Trauma is described as debilitating symptoms arising from prolonged empathetic and compassionate care of people with trauma or ‘the cost of caring’. Participants gain an understanding of the factors that contribute to the experience of work related trauma and secondary traumatic stress. This will include building awareness of the warning signs, symptoms and how to get support.

The workshop explores factors that contribute to the development and sustainability of protective factors against vicarious trauma both individual and organisational.

In this session we will explore:
  • What is vicarious trauma?
  • Factors that increase the risk of vicarious trauma
  • Common signs and symptoms of vicarious trauma
  • Acknowledging vicarious trauma
  • Protective factors for individuals and organisations
