Motivational Interviewing in the Workplace

Motivational Interviewing is a process for working with people to encourage change. This workshop introduces Motivational Interviewing principles, skills and knowledge and how they may be applied in a broad range of contexts in the workplace.

We explore how to build the case for change and to engage people throughout the stages of change. Participants will have the opportunity to practice and reflect on the concepts discussed as well as examining their own behaviour and stages of change.

In this session we will explore:
  • Motivational Interviewing as a tool for change
  • When Motivational Interviewing is the right approach
  • Stages in behaviour change
  • Appropriate strategies for each of the behaviour change stages
  • Recognising and avoiding resistance
  • Where to gain assistance for support and referral
